He asked for a reason and I gave him the best response I can think of: the truth.
He did not respond after that. I focused so that my ears may hear the beep of my phone amidst the rambling of traffic outside my aparment building. The silence was deafening.
The moment passed and, I figured, I won't be getting a response.
Guilt set in. And I scrambled to appeal to reason with the words "I need you to understand." which was almost, yet somehow not, an apology.
But the moment for a response was long gone. I said my goodbye, and the silence was his.
